"I want to come back to God, but I don’t know where to begin."

How To Come Back To God After Messing Up?
You’ve chosen to return to God, but the mistakes of your past feel like chains, holding you captive.
We’ve all made mistakes — some greater than others — but those sins shouldn’t be what drives you away from God. If anything, they’re the very reason you should run to Him.
Maybe you’re burdened by shame after giving in to lust.
Perhaps you’re condemning yourself for not walking away from that argument.
Or maybe you’re haunted by memories of the person you once were.
Let me gently remind you, Beloved: who you were is no longer who you are.
It doesn’t matter if you sinned five minutes before reading this — what matters is how you respond afterwards.
It’s easier to ignore God when we’ve done wrong, but far harder to come back and ask for His forgiveness.
Yet just because something is hard doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done.
If you’ve recently messed up, let’s start right here, with a prayer.
Let’s ask God for His forgiveness, His healing, and His love to cover every ounce of guilt and shame.
“Father God, in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ, I pray today that you would forgive me of my sin. Even though I decided to come home to You, I messed up and made a mistake. I’m sorry. I ask for Your Divine Help not to repeat this sin ever again, and that You would change the desires within my heart to align with Your Word. I ask, Father God, that if I am feeling shame, condemnation or guilt, You would heal me from it by the Blood of Jesus. And finally, I ask, Lord, that You would fill my spirit with Your overwhelming, never-ending reckless love. This and more I ask in Jesus Christ’s name. Thank You, God, for hearing my prayer. Amen.”
Well done for praying, Beloved.
It may seem like a small thing — but I assure you, it wasn’t.
Maybe, like me, you’re comparing this step to the lives of Christian women online who seem to have it all together. And maybe they do... now. But they didn’t start where they are. They began somewhere, just like you.
You wouldn’t read the first page of a book, flip to the last, and say, “That’s it.”
Your faith journey deserves the same patience.
It requires diligence. Obedience. Faith.
But with so many voices, opinions, and picture-perfect content online, it’s hard to know where to begin.
What if starting again didn’t mean starting over?
What if all you needed was the space to begin again — with grace, not pressure?
In September 2022, I made the decision to come back to God.
My life was in ruins. My family resented me. I was on the verge of dropping out. And the final straw?
Someone I trusted betrayed me... and then lied about it.
There was no dramatic moment. No movie scene.
Just the quiet, painful realisation that I was truly alone — even with people around me.
I don't think I ever searched, “how to prove you’re a good person” before, but that day, I did.
I just remember weeping and wondering why I had been abandoned, why everyone thought the worst of me and why my life felt like hell.
It was in that bleak moment, God let me know: He Saw Me and He hadn't left me.
So I dedicated my life to Him. But I had absolutely no idea how hard the journey of becoming a Christian would actually be.
For one, I wasn’t surrounded by believers. Defending my faith felt impossible. It was isolating.
I wanted more of God, but didn’t know how to receive Him. So, I turned to the internet — hoping someone out there had been where I was.
But instead of comfort, I found condemnation.
Even the helpful content left me comparing:
Their quiet time vs mine.
Their appearance vs mine.
Their walk vs my stumbling steps.
I was in competition with daughters of God who didn’t even know I existed.
And it made me miserable.
My desire to spend time with God faded. If I couldn’t be as “perfect” as them, was I even worth it?
What I needed wasn’t content — I needed help. Step-by-step, grace-filled help. And who better to offer that than God?
Sometimes we seek answers from others, rather than the Creator Himself. That’s what I did. I believed I could discover who I was through other Christian women, before ever sitting at God’s feet.
I thought my every failure disappointed the Father.
But in truth?
God allowed those moments to draw me nearer — to teach me to lean on Him.
Beginning again with God where you are right now is obedience — not failure.
You don’t need perfection to begin. Just the willingness to change.
You’re not behind — you’re just entering a new chapter.
In fact, you can embrace your “new series” this week. No need for a dramatic glow-up (though we love a makeover moment!).
Just focus on one thing you’d like to improve. One area.
Is it healthier eating? Waking up earlier? Reading your Bible?
Start there.
For example, if it’s Bible study:
Choose a Bible Study Plan
Download a Commentary App (like Enduring Word or Blue Letter Bible)
Set up your space — a study basket or bag for your Bible, notebooks, pens, sticky notes and highlighters
Play instrumental worship to set the tone
Reward yourself after 10 minutes of focus — maybe a cosy film or your favourite drink
Just remember:
God isn’t asking for perfection — He’s asking for commitment.
Starting again with God is not a punishment — it’s an invitation.
An opportunity to grow, heal, and walk in purpose.

Biblical Affirmation:
God Loves Me And Cares About Me – John 3:16
Luke 15:20 –"But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him."
